“A captivating film that truly elevates the spirit.” Los Angeles Times

Hear Maina Gielgud speak about this deeply inspirational film, its legacy
and her current work. Maina Gielgud (AO) is one of the greatest figures of
the international ballet world today. Australians know her through her
groundbreaking artistic direction of the Australian Ballet from 1983 to
1996. She will be introduced by David McAllister, current artistic director,
who has commissioned Gielgud to restage her acclaimed production of Giselle.
Unearthing a treasure trove of archival footage, filmmakers Dan Geller and
Dayna Goldfine have fashioned a dazzlingly entrancing ode to the
revolutionary twentieth-century dance troupe known as the Ballets Russes.
What began as a group of Russian refugees who never danced in Russia, became
not one but two rival dance troupes who fought the infamous “ballet battles”
that consumed London society before World War II. The film maps the
company’s Diaghilev-era beginnings in turn of-the-century Paris when artists
such as Nijinsky, Balanchine, Picasso, Miró, Matisse, and Stravinsky united
in unparalleled collaboration.

“An electrifying documentary. It lovingly brings to life an era of
unequalled artistic excitement.” Washington Post

In the halcyon days of the 1930s and ’40s, the Ballets Russes toured America
and Australia, astonishing audiences with artistry never before seen.
Directed with consummate invention and infused with juicy anecdotal
interviews from many of the company’s glamorous stars, Ballets Russes treats
modern audiences to a rare glimpse of the singularly remarkable merger of
Russian, American, European and Latin American dancers, choreographers,
composers, and designers that transformed the face of ballet forever.

Ms Prince has a one-in-a-million novelty voice made for bringing Broadway's
big, loud kewpie doll characters into full, funny bloom." ~ New York Times

"She's a singer who can define a character in a few bars of music, a talent
so rare and valuable that her absence from Broadway, however temporary, is
indeed a crime." ~ Variety

Faith Prince, in 1992, became the toast of Broadway with her Tony-winning
turn as the perennially unwed “Miss Adelaide” in GUYS AND DOLLS. She also
won the Drama Desk and Outer Critics’ Circle awards for this performance. Ms
Prince has been nominated for two other Tonys for best actress for BELLS ARE
RINGING and JEROME ROBBINS’ BROADWAY. Faith Prince’s other Broadway

Prince will have you spellbound with the genius of her characters’ depth and
hilarity.

both large and small. She can be seen in Showtime’s critically acclaimed
series HUFF as “Kelly Knipers”. She can also be seen in the upcoming films
OUR VERY OWN with Allison Janney and Cheryl Hines, and opposite Hilary and
Haily Duff in MATERIAL GIRLS. On Television, Prince appeared in JUST FOR THE
RECORD: THE MAKING OF THE GUYS AND DOLLS CAST RECORDING with Nathan Lane and
