Hi Showtuners,
Happy New Year, to start the year off I want to offer two double passes to a
production we are proud to be associated with at The Sydney Opera House
Studio the Oz debut of Kiki and Herb. This is a terrific New York Cabaret
act and it is a great treat to have them in town and playing the Studio for
the New Mardi Gras Festival, I so hope you can all get to see this amazing
act.
In the last year, the perversely funny Kiki & Herb (Justin Bond and Kenny
Mellman) supported the Scissor Sisters on tour, opened for Rufus Wainwright
and sold out New York's legendary Carnegie Hall.
They have a devoted celebrity fan base, including Kylie Minogue, The Pet
Shop Boys, Boy George, Vivienne Westwood and Deborah Harry (who provided
guest vocals on their debut CD).
Find out why when they take Sydney by storm for the start of The Studio's
2006 season.
'Kiki & Herb gleams like a rhinestone. Captivating and Intelligent.' The New
York Times
'Tacky, trashy and tasteless.' NY Daily News
KIKI & HERB
Fresh from sold out shows at Carnegie Hall, New York's cabaret terrorists
take Sydney by storm as part of the New Mardi Gras Festival
'Deranged. Hysterical. Confrontational. Unmissable.' - Time Out, London
Kiki & Herb were asked to leave a home for unwanted children in Western
Pennsylvania in the 1930s and have been dazzling crowds around the world
ever since.
Kiki is a washed up, boozed-up chanteuse whose middle age passed her by some
time ago. Piano battering, life-long accompanist Herb holds it all together
both musically and emotionally. Show business has destroyed them but they
cannot live without it.
Featuring songs made famous by the likes of Eminem, Radiohead, Kate Bush,
Nirvana and Britney Spears.
'How can one best describe the genius of Kiki & Herb? It's cabaret with the
gut wrenching impact of the best punk rock, the smarts of the snobbiest
underground music and the sick attraction of vintage torch lounge. It's the
most hilariously disturbing show you'll see this season - grand, vivacious
and sordid' - New York Times
'.catch them before they die' - Time Out New York
Feb Tue 14th - Sunday 19th / Wed 22nd- Sun 26th Tues 28th - Fri 3rd March
8:15pm. Sunday start time 7pm
$30/$25 Bookings 02 9250 7777 or www.sydneyoperahouse.com/thestudio
BUT for two lucky showtuners I have complimentary double passes to the first
night 14th Feb Valentines Day performance.
All you have to do is answer these three questions and send the answers to
KIKI at SHOWTUNE.COM.AU and the first two correct entries will win double
passes.
Question One: Who was Liza Minnelli's godmother?
Question Two: Name Rufus Wainwrights sister?
Question Three: Name the artist currently appearing in Dusty! The musical
that has opened two venues for Showtune Productions with her show?
So good luck with the competition and make sure you book for Dusty! I went
to opening night and it a smash hit and audience pleaser just like Shout!.
Oh and also a great new radio program for our industry has been set up by
Will Conyers in Melbourne, it is great and you can read all about it on
www.broadwayatbedtime.com <http://www.broadwayatbedtime.com/> and listen on
the net if your not in Melbourne. It's a great idea to help bring our
industry closer together.
Have a great New Year much love and light
David Hawkins
