Dear Showtuners,
A lot has been happening with Showtune after our huge success in Sydney with
Hedwig we have been working hard to secure a return season in 2007, our hard
work has paid off and Hedwig will return as part of the New Mardi Gras
Festival 2007. Please keep your eyes on www.hedwig.com.au
<http://www.hedwig.com.au/> over the coming week for the season
announcement. Our star iOTA will be performing as part of Shaun Rennie's
charity Light the Night this Monday night at the Sydney Recital Hall, and
also at the Sydney Theatre Companies Pier Group Cabaret on Sunday 19
November.
Whilst Hedwig was playing in Melbourne in September Showtune took on our
long time muse and advisor David Penfold as General Manager, Mr Penfold has
a great pedigree in Australian showbiz history having worked with John Frost
in many different capacities primarily as producer and management. He also
is responsible for two major movements in cabaret in Sydney being his work
with David Mitchell and Ross Coleman creating the shows at the legendary
Caps Nightclub on Oxford Street, and his work with the amazing Rose Jackson
with her famed venue Rose's. Creatively he has assisted many artists with
their careers with direction and concepts, including Judi Connelli, Peta
Toppano and Debra Byrne. The three major projects that Mr Penfold achieved
in Australasia that have helped the community at large are the restoration
and re-positioning in the venue market of The State Theatre Sydney, St James
Theatre Wellington New Zealand, and Her Majesty's Theatre Melbourne.
Needless to say we welcome Mr Penfold with open arms and look forward to
many wonderful projects together over the coming years, to have a GM that
has an understanding of the heart of music theatre will be of immense value.
Our mates at Broadway At Bedtime have a music theatre survey running that
will help the industry understand its current needs, please spend a few
minutes to do this most helpful survey just click on the below link

An Irreverent Comedy that Lifts the Skirt of a Nation
Playhouse, Sydney Opera House
6 - 23 December
By Tom Wright (Sydney Theatre Company)
Direction by Michael Kantor (Malthouse Theatre, Melbourne)
With Caroline Craig, Diana Emry, Julie Forsyth, Max Gillies, Francis
Greenslade, Eddie Perfect and Lucy Taylor
Babes in the Wood is a satirical, adults-only version of the English 'panto'
classic set in pseudo-colonial Australia. The story begins at the birth of
our great nation, when two children wander too far from home. Max Gillies
plays an insatiable panto 'dame', who attempts to do away with her wealthy
young relations to inherit their fortune. Lured into the wild, unforgiving
Australian bush to perish, the lost 'babes' meet a conga-line of colonial
creatures in this all singing, all dancing tale of anarchy and fun.
Eddie Perfect plays the virtuous, but dim consort, Jack, singing new songs
along with karaoke classics from Air Supply and Tina Turner. Peppered with
continuous reference to contemporary Australian politics and culture, some
of our most recent fears are exorcised in the most. Perfect manner!
